Documentaries – a great way to make money as a film maker, using yout existing tools and skills

Simohn Cox One of the guests on our live show The Production Office (watch here) was Simon Cox, an old film maker buddy of mine with a bunch of movies under his belt. Like many of us, he has struggled for years to stay afloat while developing new scripts – that was until he came up with a novel idea. Make a documentary! He did just that and now makes a healthy living from his first one, ‘Discover Warwickshire’. It’s done so well, he spent all of Summer shooting two more docs!

While a travel film about a UK county isn’t to every film makers taste, it does illustrate that we film makers can turn our skills and technology into projects that reach wide audiences and make money.

I have run this event three times now and its always created extraordinary breakthroughs in the delegates. Past attendees have gone on to receive television commissions, make feature length docs and sell their projects.

If you want to know more about the workshop, there is more here…

It runs over the weekend of September 4th and 5th at Ealing Studios and costs £237 (although you can get a £37 discount if you book now and use the code livingspirit when booking).

The class is limited to 14 as it’s a very interactive experience. This is the only time we will be running this workshop, so if you want to come, don’t wait.

Here’s the link.

Onwards and upwards!
