Cannes Festival Rejects Gone Fishing, But We March on…

CannesWe just had Gone Fishing rejected from official selection at Cannes. To be frank, I was 99% certain that this would happen as the selection committee look for films that are both international and esoteric. You can s ee what I mean if you look at last years selection here.

Here’s what they said in their rejection…

We regret to inform you that your film has not been selected by the Selection Committee of the Festival de Cannes for its Official Selection (Competition, Out of Competition, Un Certain Regard). We hope that you will do us the honour of presenting us your next film.

Yours sincerely,

On the upside, we now know where we stand and we can get on with planning the world festival campaign – Cannes was always a curve ball and a little too early in the campaign.

Of course, this does not mean that we won’t be in Cannes, we certainly will be, and we should have a huge amount of stuff going on to make the film visible. I can’t say just yet, but we are on the edge of closing a deal for an amazing launch party, so watch this space. I have also been working with the Met Film School and I am hoping to bring a small army of student film makers to help out, and also to experience Cannes for the first time.

Onward and upward!
