2010 Oscars Shortlist Announced… and only one British film again!

Sidney It’s Oscars time. Last year, I had just got word from the Academy that ‘Gone Fishing’ was shortlisted, which I blogged about here.

Last year the shortlist was kept secret, but this year it appears to be public (you can see the complete list on the Academy website here).

And there is just one short film from the UK – Sidney Turtlebaum – starring Derek Jacobi. I just received a call from the producer, Daniel Jewel, asking for advice as he had found the blog. We chatted for 20 minutes, about sales agents, Oscars strategies and gigs in LA, and I am sure we will meet up in the new year. I haven’t seen his film yet but the reviews are all very good.

You can see his trailer and website here… more on Sidney Turtlebaum when it’s announced.

Onwards and upwards!

Well till the UKFC realise that short film funding is a way to nurture and develop the industry, I guess we’ll be lucky to have one film in the running. The Danish film Council has for many years funded short film development, all the way from treatment to final cut, meaning you don’t have to beg borrow and steal. I think the result speaks for itself, 3 Oscars and I can see they have another one on the list this year. Oh and don’t even get me started on the latest UK film scheme ‘Microwave’
