I thought I would share the email I just sent to the 350 delegates from The Guerilla Film Makers Masterclass. The two day event was euphoric, transformative and massively motivating… but we also live in the real world… Anyhow, I hope you get something from it too…
Dear Guerilla Film Maker…
How are you doing? Have you still got laser focus on what you want to do this year? Has reality started to bleed back in? It is inevitable that it will at some point, we do after all live in reality and not Tuke Hall at the Guerilla Film Makers Masterclass!
So what to do when reality kicks in? When you find yourself wanting one thing but reality seems to want you to do something else.
First, accept the world is the way that it is. Nothing is wrong. The world ‘just is’. It does not care.
But understand also, YOU ALWAYS HAVE A CHOICE IN EVERY SITUATION.
When confronted by reality that is limiting your passion, dream or project, calmly consider what you want to do. And why.
Then make a choice. And be courageous.
Don’t just react and decide to do what you used to do because that’s what you did in the past.
Don’t just think, ‘I don’t have a choice’.
As I said, you always have a choice. Always. When you think ‘I don’t have a choice’ you are in fact choosing to NOT ‘have a choice’ – that’s a choice!
And if you choose not to choose, then somebody else will choose for you. Does that sound like the act of a courageous storyteller?
It was a massive revelation to me to discover that when life screwed up, there was always one person present, and that person was ALWAYS me! This revelation made me really consider my role in those events and how I CHOSE to enable my own problems.
So, do it differently. Make a change. Even take a stand. That is always the first step.
GO GO GO!
Remember this is it, this YOUR life and it will end one day, so make the most of this sunny day.
Onwards and upwards

Thanks Chris! I just thought I would drop in and say, that message about choice is something I always tell our students and it is a revelation to them. When they see that doing nothing is as much a choice as doing something, they realise that often they’re choosing NOT to succeed and see the concept of responsibility for their future in a new light.
As you say – You always have a choice.
