Tony Scott, RIP

News is rippling through the film world about the apparent suicide of Tony Scott, brother or Ridley and director of a mounting of pop culture movies, some of which were iconic, some were crackers, some a little forgettable and a few stinkers. Thank you for ‘Top Gun’, True Romance’ and ‘Crimson Tide’.

In time we will come to understand what it was that drove him to take his life when he seemingly had the world at his feet. For me it’s a reminder that success is so often a mirage, that the journey is so much more important than the destination.

Let his death remind us all to live life today like it’s the last day, to not take it, or ourselves too seriously, and to understand that creativity is laced with a little bit of madness.

Onwards and upwards!

I remember sitting in the cinema watching Top Gun. The theatre was packed out with girls screaming at the screen. I saw something like that earlier in my life when I was 18 in Aspen and the in thing was to watch an adult film attended by screaming youngsters, mostly girls but all done in a fun way.

Top gun was like merging expensive pop with hollywood acting and awesome boys toys. It revealed a new way of doing things and a landmark film. Ridley had Bladerunner and Alien.

    Both so talented.
