I just wanted to mark this day on my blog by posting the Space Oddity video, recorded by Commander Chris Hadfield on board the International Space Station. For me, it’s cool on so many levels.
Cool that he did it where he did it. Cool that he chose that track. Cool that he takes it seriously. Cool that it’s edited so well. Cool that he’s using tech we can all get, aside from the space station of course. Cool that he sports that tache.Cool that he is who he is, and he STILL did it with such style. Cool that he even has JJ Abrams style lens flares.
But most of all it’s cool because it inspires a curiosity in science via art.
It reminds me of when we first went to the moon. It’s simply fabulous.
We have seen these kind of shots in so many sci-fi movies, it’s easy to forget that this is real. Awesome.
What is cool about it for you?
Onwards and upwards!

Yes, this is seriously wonderful.
Notwithstanding the utterly astonishing location and theme, I have to say I was the most distracted about thinking how unbelievably cool it would have been – in the days when I played in a little band – to have been able to perform WITHOUT bothering with a strap! I mean, there’s the bass just suspended in front of you.
I wonder whether David Bowie is one of those to have signed up for a ride on Virgin’s space whotsit…he might like to re-record.
Great reply, wow what great video!
