I spent another whole day in casting – looking for the young actors to play the two young boys in ‘Gone Fishing’. I know we found one boy who was amazing, but until the parents and agents have agreed for him to play the part, I don’t want to say anything. Let’s all keep our fingers crossed.

Working with kids presents so many unusual challenges. Several times to day I was asked ‘How do you direct kids…’ and I only have one answer… ‘You don’t direct kids, you cast kids right in the first place.’ This was very apparent today during these castings. Kids are also incredibly spontaneous and honest – qualities I really want to try and capture on camera. In ‘Gone Fishing’.

The other thing that was apparent is that most actors are kind of as good as the others. Sure some have strengths, others have weaknesses, but when the right actor turns up, EVERYONE knows. It’s like a little fairy dust is sprinkled in the room.
