Casting The Big Names

Actor_2 We are currently working through the usual dance with agents and actors for our cast. The most important character is Old Bill, who the story follows, and we are looking to a warm and generous older classical Brit actor for this part. Without saying who is at the top or bottom of the list, you can see a list of some of the actors we are considering here.

It’s always tough as we are trying to strike a balance between who is ideal for the character, who is best in terms of opening doors and attracting help, who is available (who is onset or on tour or on holiday!), who has a reputation (either bad or good), who’s agents are tough… and worst of all, few actors will commit until the 11th hour, just in case a big job comes in.

And other actors of course, always ask, who is playing the lead…

So it’s a nerve wracking time. We hope to make more headway today.

Catherine Arton, my life long casting director friend, is an enormous ally in this process as she knows exactly how to talk ‘agent speak’, a peculiar dialect I can stumble through, but usually end up offending the elders. Better if she does it!

Onward and upward!
