‘Gone Fishing’ Production Manager Stephanie Wrate has helped out in the office on and off over the last year (thanks Steph), and I was delighted to find out that she recently produced her own short film. Here’s what she had to say about the experience.
‘After production managing ‘Gone Fishing’, with Chris and Ivan, I was looking to produce a short film from scratch. I met Neil (director) while working for a broadcasting company, when he approached me after seeing ‘Gone Fishing’ on DVD. He gave me a script and we started to work on this little project.
This film was based on a true story (written by Bob Perks) and when I read it, it reminded me that perhaps things wern’t as bad as they first seemed in my own life. I knew then it was a simple but powerful story. The film gave me an opportunity to make new contacts, to work with a crew of great people and to learn more about casting, locations and contracting. There was a lot of negoiations and bargining, but it was all worth it! We are all proud to be on the Macmillan Cancer support website, and for me, this was a special way of remembering a friend who lost their battle with cancer last year.’

There are two edits on the film, the one above which is my favorite, and the Macmillan one here.
Great work Steph and team.
Onwards and upwards!
